What a difference a few hours, and a cat, can make. Prepare for CUTE OVERLOAD.
Jan finally went to bed, and left us guys by ourselves. I finally showed some weakness, if you want to call it that, and went to check on the little guy in the middle of his crying fit. Whereas he didn’t want to be held before, now he did. So I rocked him while walking around the room, and gave Evan his first listen to a real live rock album – the Moody Blues’ Days Of Future Passed. I love watching him when he’s listening to music, and man, was he attentive on this one. The sudden-start-after-a-quiet-pause going into “Peak Hour” scared him a bit, but he loved the rest, even wiggling around almost in time to the music. In case I haven’t made it clear before, I’m not sure there’s anything that could make me happier than for him to grow up and take on some kind of musical direction.
Anyway, after the big orchestral outro at the end of “Nights In White Satin”, I put him back to bed and he slept for a bit. And then he started up again. I didn’t know what to do. I went to go to the bathroom, and suddenly he went totally silent; if you don’t have a child of your own, allow me to explain: the only thing more distressing than the kid crying nonstop is the kid suddenly ceasing to cry or make any other kind of noise. I finished up my business and ran around the corner to see this:
I had forgotten the five-minute rule. If the kid’s crying for five minutes, and Obi has access, Obi is THERE. Obi is to the rescue! Or he’s flopping over and rubbing on the baby to calm him down.
Before everyone runs to call DHS: Obi doesn’t even approach Evan’s face in any way that would impede his breathing. (And for anyone who believes the old saw about cats stealing a baby’s breath – and you know who you are – please proceed to stuff it.)
I feel yer pain, bro.
Love me, love my cat. We get this kind of thinking started young in this family.
Obi decides that we need more music. Hmmmm…Katamari…
This concludes the cute overload. If I hadn’t grabbed the camera for this, admit it, you never would’ve believed me.
Evan’s now sound asleep again, and Obi, having done his good deed for the night, has gone to crash on the sofa.
These pics are amazing! And you’re the one who said that Obi was a bit dense! Well, if he is, he sure compensates for it by having a good heart. Oh, and I adoooore the next-to-last pic, so “yo bro, we’re chillazin’ togeda”… All you’re missing is a couple of little baseball caps and put the pic up with some hip-hop in the background. LOL
