For the second wave of the retitled, all-encompassing Power Of The Jedi figures, Hasbro turned to an interesting mixture of fan requests from the original trilogy, new Episode I characters and a few revamped versions of previously released characters, and several revisitations of the original Kenner line. Once again proving the “ten-frames-of-film-gets-you-an-action-figure” rule of George Lucas’ universe, minor prequel characters such as bounty hunter Aurra Sing and Jedi Masters Saesee Tiin and Plo Koon were part of the latest wave.
Several original trilogy characters which have never before graced a toy shelf also appear for the first time, including Echo Base protocol droid K-3PO (from The Empire Strikes Back), a generic Mon Calamari officer from Return Of The Jedi, and Imperial astromech droid R2-Q5, alongside remakes of such original trilogy toy staples as Lando, Leia, IG-88 and the Biker Scout.
Perhaps the most interesting development was a revisitation of the Expanded Universe range – in concept, if not in name – with new figures of Darth Maul, Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon Jinn based upon early pre-production sketches (but given bizarre new justifications for these previously unseen costumes such as “Sith Apprentice” gear or “Jedi trtaining” gear).
