Washed-up New York ad agency executive Martin Sloan returns home, on foot, to his home town of Homewood. When he sets foot in Homewood, he steps back in time, more literally than he realizes. He even encounters himself, though the intensity with which he tries to impart his wisdom to younger Martin scares the boy away. His parents – both still alive in this idealized past – are no more receptive to older Martin’s presence. How far will he go to warn his younger self of the mistakes that lie ahead?
