The War Prayer

Mayan, renowned Minbari poet and old friend of Delenn, is aboard the station to entertain the Minbari population and enlighten others of Minbari culture, when she is brutally attacked by masked members of the Home Guard, an isolationist terrorist group from Earth whose members seek to flush all alien influnces out of human society. Other violent attacks on non-humans concern and outrage the aliens aboard Babylon 5. One assault leaves Vir’s nephew in a coma. G’Kar stirs up trouble in the name of justice, trying to get the alien residents of Babylon 5 to rise up against their human neighbors, while uncomfortable questions about the influence of the Home Guard trouble Sinclair, who ultimately must take a direct hand in affairs.

Stardate not given: A damaged Cardassian starship docks at DS9 and its pilot makes an urgent request for repairs so she and her passengers can continue on their way as soon as possible. She turns out to be Natima, a member of the Cardassian anti-military underground and an old lover of Quark’s from seven years ago. Her ship has been damaged while trying to escape from the Cardassians with her precious cargo: followers of her pacifist movement. Quark is overjoyed to see Natima again, but her own enthusiasm about the reunion seems much more restrained. Garak, the station’s only remaining resident Cardassian, is also happy to see Natima – but only in the same way that a hunter revels at the sight of prey…

The blackmail of a security guard for his gambling debts allows two shady characters aboard the station with their equipment, which requires a lot of power and is intended for a specific subject – Commander Sinclair. The commander is kidnapped and wired into a virutal-reality cybernet, in which he is interrogated by an unknown but determined adversary whose purpose is to uncover memories of what happened when Sinclair’s ship went missing for the 24 hours prior to the Minbari surrender in the final battle of the Earth-Minbari War. Sinclair resists his opponent’s attempts to get into his mind, but finally he remembers events that have been blocked from his memory for a decade: the destruction of his entire squadron, his capture by a Minbari battle cruiser, torture, and a mysterious encounter with twelve figures cloaked in grey, one of whom he suddenly remembers well – Delenn. The memory could cost Sinclair his life.

When they return from their mission, they find that every inhabitant of the ship has somehow mutated into more primitive forms of life, some dangerous, others not. The cause of this condition is a virus which has now infected Picard, leaving him and Data very little time to reverse the plight of the crew.

The bereaved fathers made a pact, along with their mutual friend Dax, to avenge their sons’ deaths. After years of searching, the murderer has been found – and they wonder if Jadzia Dax will still honor an oath of vengeance made by Curzon Dax.

Stardate 47751.2: Wesley Crusher, on a sabattical from Starfleet Academy, has returned to the Enterprise in an attempt to recoup his energies in time to graduate. He is troubled by something which he has yet to reveal to anyone, but more pressing matters are on the mind of Picard and the crew as Starfleet orders the Enterprise to evacuate or otherwise remove a colony of Native American Indians who have settled on an isolated planet to preserve their culture. This planet is now due to be handed over to the Cardassians according to the terms of a treaty which realigns the borders of Federation and Cardassian space, and the Indian colonists will no longer be welcome. Tired of their history of being displaced by territorial bureaucracy, the Indians of Dorvin V decide to reshape the borders themselves to protect what they hold sacred – and they find a sympathizer in Wesley, who jeopardizes his Starfleet career to help them and learn more about them.

The Maquis – Part I

Stardate not given: A Cardassian ship is destroyed moments after leaving dock at DS9, and evidence is discovered pointing to sabotage – committed not by Bajorans, but by someone in the Federation. Gul Dukat arrives on the station, telling Sisko that things are heating up along the recently realigned Cardassian/Federation border, along which a demilitarized zone has been erected. Also present on the station is the Federation attache’ to the Federation colonies on the border, Commander Hudson, who also happens to be an old friend of Sisko. Dukat and Sisko travel to one of the border colonies, witnessing a furious battle between Federation and Cardassian colonists’ vessels along the way. On arrival, they discover that the human responsible for the destruction of the Cardassian vessel has been captured on DS9, interrogated and then killed, enraging the human colonists. After returning to the station, Dukat is kidnapped and taken from the station. A message is received from a group who call themselves the Maquis, claiming responsibility for the abduction. Sisko, Kira and Bashir track down the ship that must have taken Dukat from the station, and Sisko discovers that Hudson, who has voiced sympathies for the displaced Federation colonists, is the leader of the colonists in their war against their Cardassian neighbors.

Waiting for a Narn representative to arrive at the station, Na’Toth spots a woman she claims is a war criminal who committed atrocities upon her family during conflicts 30 years ago and viciously attacks her. Sinclair discovers that the victim of the assault would indeed appear to be Jha’dur, a Dilgar warmaster whose hideous biological experiments took the lives of thousands. She now claims to have created a drug which bestows immortality, and Earth immediately calls the station with orders for Sinclair to ship Jha’dur home so planetside scientists can develop her discovery. As it so happens, the Narn Regime has given G’Kar similar orders. Most of the smaller members of the League of Non-Aligned Worlds, however, still harbor a deep hatred of the Dilgar and Jha’dur in particular…to the point of severing diplomatic ties with anyone who now chooses to associate with her.

Stardate 47779.4: As Alexander nears the age where he must decide whether or not to become a warrior, Worf grows worried that the boy will choose to shed all vestiges of Klingon heritage. Visiting a Klingon outpost during a festival, Worf and Alexander are cornered by a gang of street thugs. As Worf manages to fight most of them off, the fight is ended by a Klingon who calls himself K’mtar, a bodyguard appointed by Worf’s brother Kurn. K’mtar reveals that the attack was not random, but an assassination attempt planned by Lursa and B’etor, who are still scheming to someday overthrow the Empire. With the help of K’mtar, and some gossip courtesy of Quark, the Enterprise is off to track down the Duras sisters when it becomes evident that someone is trying to tamper with future affairs.

The Maquis – Part II

Stardate not given: The Cardassian Central Command is up in arms about the abduction of Gul Dukat, and Hudson has declared his intention to help the Maquis with all his resources. A visit from a high representative of Cardassia puzzles Sisko when he declares that Dukat is responsible for smuggling weapons into the demilitarized zone and, if returned to Cardassia, will be executed. Sisko goes after Dukat, rescuing him from the Maquis and sending a message to Hudson through renegade colonist Amaros. Dukat, as it happens, has been kept in the dark, and agrees to help Sisko prove the source of the Cardassian colonists’ arms in exchange for Sisko’s help in bringing Maquis violence to a halt. A captured Vulcan members of the Maquis reveals a plan to attack a hidden Cardassian weapons depot, and Sisko launches DS9’s fleet of Runabouts to intercept the Maquis’ two vessels. Sisko is pressured by Starfleet and Dukat to hunt Hudson down and stop him at any cost to prevent a full-scale war.

A family of a devout people known as the Children of Time arrive on the station seeking medical treatment for their son, whose respiratory blockage will prove to be fatal if not treated soon. When Dr. Franklin proposes surgery, however, he stumbles across their belief that puncturing the body allows the spirit to escape, and they refuse his help. As he manages to stall them by asking them to consider a more risky alternative treatment, Franklin petitions Sinclair for permission to overrule the parents’ authority so he can save the child’s life. Sinclair has to walk on eggshells around both parties, but cannot avoid making a ruling on the matter that could undermine Babylon 5’s neutral status. And all this time, a child’s life is slipping away…and Dr. Franklin decides to take control of the situation himself.

Stardate 47829.1: Picard receives a threat from his old Ferengi adversary DaiMon Bok, who still blames Picard for the death of his son in the first encounter between the Federation and the Ferengi. Bok announces his intent to kill Jason Vigo to avenge his loss, and the threat disturbs Picard. After tracking Jason down, Picard is stunned when genetic tests confirm that Jason is the son of Picard and a woman from his past. Jason turns out to be a rebellious young man with a record of misdemeanors involving theft and trespassing and a passion for rock climbing. Bok continues to mysteriously get through the Enterprise’s defenses to threaten Jason’s life, until he finally kidnaps Jason and has his opportunity for vengeance.

Stardate not given: During a lunchtime disagreement with Bashir over the relative merits of Cardassian literature, Garak begins to loose his plain, simple demeanor and concerns Bashir immensely. Garak finally collapses, and Bashir discovers the source of the mysterious Cardassian’s ailment – some kind of implant is connected to his brain. Quark, having been contacted by Garak to acquire something related to his problem, stumbles across the party responsible for the implant – Cardassia’s Obsidian Order, a feared secret police organization which has been known to obtain information by means even darker than the Cardassian military’s interrogators. Bashir risks delving into the mysteries of the Obsidian Order in a race against time to find a cure for Garak – and perhaps to learn some of his secrets.

With a visit from the recently re-elected President of the Earth Alliance looming in the immediate future, preparations are in full swing, including maintenance on a docking area which will be the home of a new fighter squadron being brought to Babylon 5 by the President. An explosion in this area brings the President’s chief of security, a woman whose father was killed in an incident 17 years ago engineered by criminals to frame Garibaldi, aboard the station to investigate. A dying worker points the finger at Garibaldi for planting the bomb that damaged the fighter bay, and the President’s security chief pronounces Garibaldi a fugitive from justice. Though he is on the run, Garibaldi puts his life on the line by continuing to investigate the real cause of the explosion as the President’s visit draws near.

Stardate 47869.2: While rehearsing a scene from “The Tempest” in the holodeck, Data and Picard are amazed when they are nearly run over by the Orient Express, the famed 19th century locomotive whose itinerary never once included Prospero’s island. Investigation of this quirk is postponed by the Enterprise’s sudden jump to warp speed, and a fortuitous exit from warp just in time to avoid the ship’s destruction. When the crew concentrates the search to this problem, a strange modification of the ship’s circuitry is discovered, one which seems to be tying many disparate systems together. When the ship’s systems take measures to protect the growing anomaly, the truth becomes clear – this is no accident, but a new intelligence all its own taking form within the Enterprise’s hull.
