Doctor Who (1996 TV Movie)

Doctor WhoBefore he is executed by the Daleks for crimes against them, the Master asks that his remains be given to the Doctor for transport to Gallifrey. En route in the Doctor’s TARDIS, the Master’s remains break free of their container, still pulsating with malevolent life. The Master sabotages the TARDIS, forcing an emergency landing in San Francisco on December 30, 1999. The moment he steps out of the TARDIS, the Doctor is caught in the middle of a gang shooting. One young survivor of the shootout, Chang Lee, calls an ambulance for the Doctor, unwittingly providing an escape for the Master as well. Cardiologist Grace Holloway ignores the X-rays which show the Doctor’s two hearts and tries to operate on him. The operation and the anasthetics end the Doctor’s seventh life. The Doctor regenerates in the morgue as the Master takes over the body of a paramedic. Grace resigns after losing her patient, but the newly reborn Doctor, suffering from amnesia, escapes the hospital and follows her home. After convincing Grace of his alien nature and regaining his memory, the Doctor discovers that his future regenerations are the Master’s targets. Aided by Chang Lee and a hypnotized Grace, the Master captures the Doctor and tries to use the TARDIS’ Eye of Harmony to transfer the Doctor’s life energy into the paramedic’s decaying body, but opening the Eye on Earth will destroy the planet at midnight on December 31. When Chang Lee rebels against the Master’s dominance, the Master kills him and releases Grace to help him. Grace escapes and sets the TARDIS into motion, freeing Earth from danger. The Master’s scheme fails, but he kills Grace after she releases the Doctor. The Master falls into the Eye of Harmony and vanishes from existence, while the TARDIS restores Grace and Chang Lee to full health. The Doctor brings his passengers back to Earth just after the dawn of the year 2000. Grace turns down the Doctor’s offer to accompany him on his travels, and the Doctor departs in the TARDIS.

Ooroboros

Red DwarfCat spots something which may be either a wiggly thing or a swirly thing, but is actually an unstable interdimensional rift not unlike a swirly thing, and in engineering a linkway opens up to another dimension (rather like a wiggly thing). Lister, Cat and Kryten meet their counterparts from another dimension, a dimension in which things happened a little differently – Kristine Kochanski, not Lister, was put in stasis and revived three million years later; and Lister, not Rimmer, was revived as a hologram to keep her sane. But a ship full of angry GELFs (quite ugly things) attacks, leaving Kochanski marooned in an unfamilar universe with a familiar but unsavory crew, one of whom also happens to be the salvation of humanity.

Scorpion – Part II

Star Trek: VoyagerStardate not given: Janeway strikes a deal with the Borg to exchange the modified nanotechnology for a safe trip through Borg territory, but almost immediately things go wrong. The Borg attempt to force Janeway into a direct neural link to the Collective, but she instead demands that the Borg choose a single drone to facilitate verbal communication, and a female human Borg called Seven of Nine is appointed. An ambush by Species 8472 destroys the Borg cube containing Janeway, but she, Tuvok and a number of Borg safely transport back to Voyager. The Borg quickly assimilate the cargo bay which they have taken over, and Janeway must recover from injuries she sustained in the attack on the Borg ship. When Seven of Nine demands a change in the ship’s course taking it into the heart of Borg space, Chakotay decides to abort the newly-forged alliance with the Borg. Now the crew faces the prospect of a Borg invasion from within, or a violent death at the hands of Species 8472, unless Janeway and Chakotay can overcome their differences of opinion regarding cooperation with the Borg.

Babylon 5Change is the order of the day aboard Babylon 5 as it accepts its new role as capitol of the Interstellar Alliance. Sheridan prepares for his inauguration as his handpicked replacement, Earthforce Captain Elizabeth Lochley, arrives. Sheridan pointedly ignores her role in Earth’s civil war – but others in the crew are not so quick to overlook the past. A group of telepaths approaches Lochley, seeking sanctuary from Psi Corps and a place to call home. Garibaldi, now a civilian, hovers over Zack and clashes with the new captain on matters of security. And G’Kar must create two of the first symbols of the new alliance – an oath of office and a declaration of principles. The preparations may be for nothing, however – a would-be assassin stalks B5, ready to make Sheridan pay for his actions during the war.

Star Trek: Deep Space NineStardate not given: On Earth, three months after the wormhole closed and the Orbs went dark, Sisko has a vision of uncovering a woman’s face in the sands of Tyree. He learns that the woman was his real mother, Sarah, and that she had left behind a locket with ancient Bajoran writing on the back, which reads “Orb of the Emissary.” Despite an attempt on his life by a member of the Cult of the Pah-Wraith, Sisko resolves to seek the Orb on Tyree, accompanied by his father and Jake. Meanwhile, on DS9, a Romulan military presence is established, but when they take over a Bajoran moon in order to build a hospital complex which also serves as a weapon storage facility, the Bajoran government wants them out; and Worf, Bashir, and O’Brien decide to undertake a dangerous mission in Jadzia’s name.

Lyekka

LexxAs Lexx flies through a swarm of space-borne life forms, one of them slips aboard and scans the crew, listening in on one of Stan’s dreams and taking the form of a girl he once (unsuccessfully) asked out on a date. Despite his having just woken up, this incident still registers as unusual enough with Stan to convince him to awaken Kai. The girl, Lyekka, seems to take an instant dislike to Kai, but she’s still perfectly cheerful about it. The Lexx receives a signal from a spacecraft from the planet Potatoho, whose astronauts are venturing into interstellar space for the first time. Stan welcomes them aboard and gives them a tour of the Lexx, and Lyekka expresses an interest in the astronauts as well. When Stanley demonstrates Lexx’s destructive power, he accidentally destroys the Potatoho space capsule. As Stan sleeps, the astronauts explore Lexx, and one of them finds Lyekka lurking on the flight deck. She offers herself to him, and mere moments later, his crewmates can find no trace of him. The same fate soon befalls another of the astronauts, only this time Kai sees it happen – Lyekka reverts to a jellyfish-like form and devours the astronaut. Now, with only one of the astronauts remaining, Kai knows it’s only a matter of time before Lyekka turns to Stan for dessert. But first, Lyekka has a gift for Stan.

In the meantime, the planet Potatoho receives visitors of its own: a swarm of robotic drone arms which attack and completely destroy the planet, with Mantrid’s ship not far behind.

FarscapeWhen Moya damages a Nebari ship in another unintended StarBurst, she and Pilot insist on bringing its crew aboard to help them make repairs. Moya’s crew is less than thrilled to discover that the Nebari ship is a prison vessel, carrying a thief named Chiana back home for “rehabilitation” – a complete reworking of her personality to ensure her good behavior. Even more alarming to Rygel, the Nebari official Salis is accompanied by Captain Durka, the former commander of the Zelbinion. Salis insists that Durka, too, has been rehabilitated, and the former Peacekeeper expresses remorse for his actions. His apologies fall on deaf ears, however, and Rygel’s efforts to take revenge only compound the situation. Chiana escapes, Salis dies, and the crew must decide which criminal to trust.

Fire & Water

LexxThe Lexx is adrift, as it has been for thousands of years, its crew in hibernation or, in 790’s case, standby mode. 790 awakens when the ship’s sensors detect something the crew has been waiting for – a habitable planet. Actually, the Lexx has drifted into the gravitational pull of two habitable planets, one an ocean-covered paradise, the other a global desert, orbiting each other and permanently connected by a strand of breathable atmosphere between them.

A hot air balloon from the desert planet comes to investigate the insect-like visitor in the sky; the leader of this expedition questions 790 briefly and then tosses the robot head into the chasm beneath the flight deck. He next awakens Stanley, and introduces himself as Prince. Prince abducts Stanley and the still-frozen Xev and takes them to the desert planet of Fire. Left aboard the Lexx, Kai awakens, finds 790 and repairs it – but the robot head’s love slave programming reasserts itself and 790 now moons over Kai instead of Xev. Unable to pinpoint which planet Stan and Xev have been taken to, Kai mistakenly jumps through the atmosphere interface toward Water.

On Fire, Stanley is forced into slave labor under pain of death, while Prince awakens Xev and questions her about the Lexx, not having gotten what he wanted from Stan. When Xev reveals the Lexx’s destructive power, Prince finally understands what Stan was holding back – and decides that he wants both the Lexx and Xev.

WitchbladeThe inquiry into the ambush at the Rialto Theater is not looking good for Pezzini – and her prospects of keeping her badge look even worse when the antagonistic Captain Dante is appointed as the head of the homicide department. Evidence involving a bladed weapon at the site of the massacre has turned up, and there are questions about a man who knocked Jake out cold just before the fight – a man who is at this very moment being hunted down by three heavily-armed combatants on motorcycles. After the inquiry session is over, Jake and Pez respond to this duel, only to find that two of the three combatants didn’t make it out of the fight. Pez gives chase to one of them, but loses him after narrowly missing one of his bullets. The trail of evidence eventually leads her to the door of Kenneth Irons, who is also being hunted by the sole surviving assailant of his bodyguard – but will protecting Irons neceessarily be the lesser of two evils for the wielder of the Witchblade?

Letters From The Other Side

JeremiahJeremiah, Marcus and Erin are reunited in cells in Valhalla Sector, where Marcus is ruthlessly interrogated about his involvement in an “attempt to overthrow the United States government.” Jeremiah, on the other hand, is escorted to a personal meeting with the man who seems to be in control of that government. The President asks Jeremiah to talk his father into revealing the secrets of the out-of-control bioweapon that the world knows as the Big Death – but, if Jeremiah refuses to cooperate, his life will be used as a pawn to force his father to tell the President what he knows. Jeremiah is reunited with his father, meeting his research assistant Libby in the process, but both men know that their reunion has put them in a dangerous position: the President’s men won’t touch Devon, but as a bargaining chip, Jeremiah is expendable – and the moment he talks, so is Devon.

In the meantime, Kurdy is still on the run from Valhalla Sector search parties and helicopters, and he meets a man who claims that God wants Kurdy to stop running and surrender. Kurdy keeps running until he’s cornered – by none other than Lee Chen, Marcus’ traitorous right-hand-man. But now Lee claims to be working for Jeremiah’s father, and wants to return to Thunder Mountain with Marcus’ help. Lee wants to use Megan, the Big Death-infected woman living in Thunder Mountain’s isolation lab, as a way to secure the release of Valhalla Sector’s prisoners – and if it means saving Marcus’ life, Megan is willing to hand herself over. But the shadow government within Valhalla Sector doesn’t want Megan or Devon’s research to contain the Big Death. They want the ability to selectively deploy the disease as a weapon to ensure their dominance over the world.

The Harvest

Doctor Who: The HarvestThe Doctor and Ace have insinuated themselves into the staff of a London hospital in 2021, trying to discover what they can about a top secret project called “C Program,” which the Doctor suspects is using alien technology. The Doctor’s nasty suspicions about the origins of that technology come into sharp focus when Ace befriends a young medic nicknamed Hex in an effort to find out more about C Program, and a hulking humanoid tries to kill both of them shortly afterward. Ace lets Hex into the TARDIS, and he quickly becomes involved in the time travelers’ plans to find out what’s going on. He might even join Ace and the Doctor for more of their travels, if any of them survive the harvesting of the human race for the organs needed by an invasion force that could overrun Earth in mere weeks.

Avalon – Part 1

Stargate SG-1The members of SG-1 have moved on to new assignments – Carter is now working at Stargate R&D full time. Teal’c has his hands full with the internal politics of the new Jaffa nation. Daniel Jackson is preparing to join the Daedalus on its trip to Atlantis. The SGC itself has a new leader, General Hank Landry. Lt. Col. Cameron Mitchell arrives to join SG-1, eager to work with “the best of the best.” Critically injured leading the fighter squadron that protected SG-1 during Anubis’s assault in Antarctica, Mitchell was promised his choice of assignments by General O’Neill. But it falls to Landry to provide the details that O’Neill left out: Mitchell isn’t at SGC to join the existing team. He’s there to form and lead the new SG-1.

A disappointed Mitchell tries to convince the original team to reunite. Despite their gratitude and respect for Mitchell, he is unsuccessful – at least until Daniel’s old acquaintance Vala returns, claiming to have stolen a tablet that leads to an Ancient treasure. In order to ensure that she profits from the venture, Vala uses Goa’uld bracelets to link Daniel and her – neither can go very far from the other without falling ill. Having missed his trip on the Daedalus, Daniel turns his attention to the tablet. It suggests that the legend of Merlin and King Arthur has some link to the Ancients. The Prometheus‘ scanners find a large underground network of tunnels in England, hidden from Earth surveys by Ancient technology. Mitchell, Daniel, Vala and a visiting Teal’c ring into the complex and soon face a sword in a stone and a holographic message that their knowledge and character will be tested. And the consequence for failure is grave indeed.

The Siege Part III

Stargate AtlantisAs Sheppard is about to carry out a suicide mission against the nearest Wraith hive ship aboard a puddle jumper, another ship signals him and orders him to decloak – the Daedalus has arrived from Earth. And while that helps matters in orbit over Atlantis, there are still Wraith on the loose in Atlantis itself. Daedalus also bears a gift for Dr. McKay – a ZPM that will power Atlantis’ shields. Getting the module into place is enough of a challenge with Wraith warriors stalking the city, but when the last hive ship is destroyed in space, the remaining dart fighters mount a suicide strike on Atlantis. In the course of defending the city from the ground, Lt. Ford is captured by a Wraith, but before it can feed, a grenade blasts Ford and his attacker into the ocean below. When Ford is recovered, he has been subjected to an overdose of an enzyme injected into Wraith victims to prolong their lives for feeding, and when he awakens, he has Wraith-like strength, a temper to match, and – according to Dr. Beckett – a lifelong dependency on the enzyme. After the Wraith advance is beaten back, twelve more hive ships are detected. Sheppard’s strategy to intercept the hive ships ahead of their arrival works only briefly before the Daedalus is forced to fall back to Atlantis for repairs. McKay devises a plan to fool the Wraith into thinking that Atlantis has been destroyed, which could save everyone – unless Ford, unable to control himself, gives the game away.

Man of Science, Man of Faith

LostFlashback: Jack saves the life of a woman injured in a car accident, but when she wakes up, he has to deliver the bad news: there is extensive damage to her spinal column, and a good chance she will be paralyzed for life. Jack’s father thinks that he should stress the possibility of hope; the woman’s fiance seems troubled by the prospects of a lifetime of intense care and physical assistance. The woman’s determination inspires Jack to promise that he will fix her; that promise leads to an late night of running up and down stadium steps to expiate his guilt when he can’t fulfill it. A fellow runner introduces himself as Desmond and raises a question: what if Jack did fix her? He dismisses the idea… until the next day, when she wakes up and wiggles her toes.

The Island: Within a bunker, a man types commands on a old computer terminal, injects himself with some kind of chemical, and works out while listening to one of a large library of vinyl records. His routine is interrupted by a sudden tremor – the result of the dynamite blowing open the hatch. Jack, Kate, and Locke peer down into the hatch and see nothing but a broken ladder; the shaft goes down into the darkness. Jack realizes that the hatch will not provide a sanctuary and wants to head back to the caves immediately. Locke is more eager to explore, but ultimately concedes to Jack. On the way back, Hurley tells Jack about his previous experiences with the numbers.

At the caves, panic is starting to set in. Shannon sets out to find Walt’s dog Vincent, and Sayid accompanies her. They are briefly separated, and for a moment she sees Walt, soaking wet and whispering something. Sayid finds her and Walt disappears. Shortly afterward, Jack and the others return, and Jack reassures everyone that they’ll be fine, that the sun will come up in a few hours and they’ll see it together. But Locke is determined to go back to the hatch. Kate follows him in case he needs help. And Jack decides that he’s not going to let the two of them face the inside of the hatch alone.

Locke lowers Kate into the shaft. Before she hits bottom, some force pulls her down despite Locke’s attempts to brace himself and keep hold of the rope. A bright light shines out of the hatch, and Kate is gone. When Jack reaches the hatch, neither are there. He finds his way into the bunker and the music starts playing again; the room is filled with decades-old equipment. Jack reaches for the terminal, but Locke encourages him not to touch it. And whoever it is holding a gun to Locke’s head thinks that’s a pretty good idea too.

A Tale of Two Cities

LostFlashback: As Jack’s divorce nears completion, he obsesses over the identity of Sarah’s new lover. He attempts to track her cell phone usage, and discovers that she had at some point called his father. He follows his father to an AA meeting and accuses him of sleeping with his wife. When he slugs his father, he is arrested. Sarah bails him out, calls him a cab, and emphatically says good-bye.

The Island: A book club meets in what appears to be a normal suburban home. The host, Juliet, defends her choice of book, even while acknowledging that someone named Ben wouldn’t be much of a fan. The meeting is interrupted by what appears to be an earthquake. Everyone runs outside to see a plane break in half and descend. This is the island, and these are the Others. Henry Gale orders Goodwin and Ethan to infiltrate the survivors.

In the present, Jack is in a cell. Juliet tries to get him to take food, but he resists. Sawyer is in a cage that resembles an animal behavior experiment. Kate is given a shower and a dress, and brought to Henry. He warns her that the next two weeks are going to be unpleasant. Jack and Sawyer each make escape attempts, but even though Jack briefly manages to take Juliet hostage, neither can stay free for long.
