Stardate 5577.3: The Enterprise receives a distress signal from the solitary planet in the Cepheus system, where no life has previously been known to exist. As the crew tries to respond to the distress signal, they are suddenly paralyzed by a powerful energy discharge, which also critically damages the Enterprise’s engines, stranding them in orbit. To make matters worse, the crew is now shrinking in size, presumably a side effect of the blast of energy. Kirk suspects that whoever is sending the distress signal is responsible for the gradual miniaturization of his crew.
