On April 18, 1972, Apollo 16 is en route to the moon, and the wives of its three crew members hang on every transmission from the increasingly distant spacecraft. Other wives – most of them veterans of their own husbands’ journeys – gather to offer support and advice. Despite the fact that they don’t seem to discuss it openly, all of the astronauts’ wives know that some of them have handled the pressures better than others.
