Thank God It’s Friday . . . Again

FarscapeD’Argo storms off Moya in the midst of a Luxan hyper-rage. But when Crichton, Aeryn, Zhaan and Rygel follow him down to the planet Sykar, they find their much-mellowed shipmate celebrating the end of the work week and tomorrow’s rest day. Crichton and Zhaan stay with D’Argo in an effort to persuade him to give up his new life as a field laborer. Aeryn and Rygel return to Moya before the Sykaran sun brings the temperature above Aeryn’s tolerance levels; once there, Rygel encounters a threat of a decidedly internal nature. Morning comes, and a confused Crichton and Zhaan watch D’Argo set off for work, declaring that tomorrow is rest day.

I, E.T.

FarscapeThe crew discovers a homing beacon installed inside Moya, broadcasting their location to the Peacekeepers. To muffle the signal, Moya buries itself in a bog, and Crichton, Aeryn and D’Argo disembark to gather an element needed to anesthetize Moya during the beacon’s removal. Crichton is quickly separated and finds himself in the hands of the natives, who have yet to journey into space or encounter visitors from other worlds. Because of the delay, Rygel begins the surgery to remove the crystal with only Zhaan’s empathic ability to draw away Moya’s pain.

Prequel Trilogy Star Wars

The Phantom Menace

Star WarsThe Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic sends two Jedi Knights, Qui-Gon Jinn and his apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi, to the planet Naboo to investigate a distress call indicating an invasion by the Neimoidian Trade Federation. When their diplomatic visit leads them into an ambush, the two Jedi stow away on the Trade Federation’s landing vessels to warn the people of Naboo themselves. The first local they encounter, Gungan misfit Jar Jar Binks, takes them to his undersea home city of Otoh Gunga for safety, but the Gungans quickly turn all three back toward the surface. Just when the Trade Federation’s battle droid army appears to have captured the young Queen Amidala, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan rescue her, convincing her to escape with them to Coruscant, where she can plea for Naboo’s freedom before the Galactic Senate. Amidala reluctantly agrees, but her personal ship is almost destroyed in the escape from Naboo, saved only by the valiant efforts of an astromech droid designated R2-D2. With her ship’s main drive unit in pieces, the Queen agrees to a brief layover on a frontier planet called Tatooine for repairs.

On Tatooine, Qui-Gon and Jar Jar try to find replacement parts, with a royal handmaiden named Padme’ in tow. As Qui-Gon tries to bargain with a no-nonsense parts trader, Padme’ becomes acquainted with a precocious nine-year-old slave boy named Anakin Skywalker. After failing to strike a deal for the parts needed to repair the Queen’s ship, Qui-Gon and his companions move on, but a run-in between Jar Jar and one of the locals reunites them with Anakin. A chance sandstorm forces Qui-Gon’s entourage to take shelter in Anakin’s slave quarters, where he lives with his mother, who is also a servant. Anakin eagerly suggests that Qui-Gon sponsor him in the Boonta Eve pod race, just a day away – a race whose prize money could allow Qui-Gon to buy parts for the Queen’s ship an escapes. Though Anakin’s mother is concerned for her son’s safety, she agrees, and Qui-Gon makes the bet. At the same time, the Jedi Knight suspects that Anakin is very strong with the Force, since no human has the reflexes necessary to race pods.

The hazardous pod race, overseen by Jabba the Hutt, results in the death or disqualification of most of the contestants – except for Anakin and an alien named Sebulba, who has no qualms about cheating. But quick thinking (and, Qui-Gon believes, the Force) not only keeps Anakin in one piece, but he beats the reigning champion. What Anakin does not know is that Qui-Gon had such confidence in his abilities that he added Anakin’s freedom to his bet. But Anakin falters at the thought of leaving Tatooine for a life of adventure when his mother will still be toiling away. Shmi Skywalker assures her son that he will be safe, and encourages him to pursue his dreams. With a new hyperdrive and a new young passenger, Qui-Gon sets out to return to Queen Amidala’s ship – a journey which is abruptly interrupted by a dark warrior who tries to use his considerable Jedi skills to kill Qui-Gon. Barely escaping with his life, Qui-Gon realizes that his attacker could only have been a Sith Lord – the evil opposite number to the valiant ranks of the Jedi, and probably an assassin in search of Queen Amidala.

On Coruscant, Qui-Gon informs the Jedi Council of the murderous Sith, though some of the members insist that the Sith are extinct. He surprises them even more by introducing them to Anakin, whose Force instincts and genetic makeup both prove to be very unique – and potentially very powerful. But the Council members, after testing Anakin’s skills and interviewing him, conclude that the boy is too old and set in his ways. Elsewhere on Coruscant, Queen Amidala’s attempts to bring the pressure of the Senate to bear are thwarted by bureaucracy. Naboo’s Senator Palpatine suggests a vote of no confidence, which is quickly passed, deposing Supreme Chancellor Valorum from leadership of the Senate. Naturally, Palpatine nominates himself as Valorum’s replacement, and the Senate’s sympathy for the plight of Naboo assures his ascension. Queen Amidala vows to return to Naboo to rally her people, calling on Jar Jar to help her make peace with the isolationist Gungans. Qui-Gon (with Anakin in tow) and Obi-Wan accompany the Queen back to Naboo to protect her.

Though Jar Jar has a difficult time convincing his people – now in hiding from the Trade Federation’s battle droids – to help defend Naboo, the Queen puts herself at the Gungans’ mercy. The Gungans commit all of their resources to the battle in an attempt to retake the Queen’s palace, a fight made more difficult by the entrenched army of droids. Anakin is forced to take shelter in a Naboo starfighter, but in trying to protect himself he accidentally launches the ship, hurling himself into the midst of the intense space battle being waged between the Naboo defense force and the Federation’s droid fighters. Darth Maul, the Sith Lord, also reappears, and Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan divert all of their energy and strength to preventing him from assassinating the Queen. The freedom of Naboo depends on the efforts of the Jedi, the determination of Queen Amidala, and the inquisitive Anakin . . . but not all of them will live to see the peace restored.

That Old Black Magic

FarscapeWhen a stranger appears to Crichton and claims to be a magician, Crichton is skeptical. When the stranger demonstrates his knowledge of Crichton’s predicament and offers to help him settle things with Crais, however, skepticism turns to interest. The deal is not quite what it seems, however – while the stranger does bring Crais and Crichton together, he does so by separating their spirits from their bodies, trapping the former in his stronghold. Crichton seeks to enlist Crais’ help in overcoming their captor, but Crais’s thoughts are only on revenge – and his corporeal form is a price he’s more than willing to pay. Crichton’s only hope may be in Zhaan reconnecting with a part of herself she hoped she had left behind for good, one that could cost her her very way of life.

DNA Mad Scientist

FarscapeZhaan, D’Argo, Crichton and Rygel enlist the aid of Namtar, a famed genetic researcher whose database of 11,000 species might include star charts back to their home worlds. While Earth proves beyond even Namtar’s reach, he offers maps to the other three for a small price – one of Pilot’s arms. To Crichton’s shock and Pilot’s consternation, they agree, taking the limb by force. When the data crystal with the maps arrive, however, the three discover that Moya’s computers can not handle the avalanche of data, and that the only way to salvage even one of the maps is to destroy the other two. While Zhan, Rygel and D’Argo scheme with and against each other, the prospect of anyone returning home reminds Aeryn of her isolation from the Peacekeepers, and asks Namtar to find her a Sebacean colony somewhere where she might fit in. Instead, the scientist uses Aeryn as a test subject for a new genetic graft, by which he intends to assimilate Pilot’s multitasking abilities into himself. Crichton must find a way to rescue Aeryn before someone wins the battle of wills, and Moya departs the Uncharted Territories forever.

Till The Blood Runs Clear

FarscapeCrichton and Aeryn take the Farscape One module out for a spin around a planet with massive solar flare activity. Crichton is delighted when his slingshot maneuver creates a proto-wormhole; less so when the resultant damage to the module forces Aeryn and him to land on the planet below and seek out the services of the local mechanic. Unfortunately, Crais has recently been in the area as well, sending a message beacon to advertise the bounties on Zhaan, D’Argo and Rygel, and a hidden offer for Aeryn. A pair of eager-to-collect bounty hunters suspect Crichton and Aeryn of having some link to the fugitives until Crichton bluffs his way into command of the entire hunting party. All goes well until Crais’ offer and an ill-timed solar flare combine to give Aeryn a very difficult time in seeing her own future, while an impatient D’Argo heads for the surface and is quickly captured, raising the stakes on Crichton’s bluff.

Rhapsody in Blue

FarscapeMoya initiates a sudden StarBurst when she hears a distress call from another pregnant Leviathan. Upon arrival, however, the crew learns that the signal was actually sent by a Delvian sect seeking Zhaan’s help. In their efforts to develop the power needed to free their world from the Peacekeepers, they have unleashed their own darker impulses; their leader is already insane, and his daughter and successor Tahleen is soon to follow. Only Zhaan has the knowledge and power to restrain those impulses, and Tahleen implores Zhaan to join her in mental unity in order to share that knowledge. Shaken by the memory of the last time she entered such a unity, and against Crichton’s better judgment, she agrees. He strikes up a friendship with the natives, although a few Acquarans fear that he is a threat to their ambitions. At D’Argo and Aeryn’s insistence, the crew of Moya spends months searching for Crichton. But when they find him, the Acquarans mistake Rygel for a long-awaited deity. Durka Returns

FarscapeWhen Moya damages a Nebari ship in another unintended StarBurst, she and Pilot insist on bringing its crew aboard to help them make repairs. Moya’s crew is less than thrilled to discover that the Nebari ship is a prison vessel, carrying a thief named Chiana back home for “rehabilitation” – a complete reworking of her personality to ensure her good behavior. Even more alarming to Rygel, the Nebari official Salis is accompanied by Captain Durka, the former commander of the Zelbinion. Salis insists that Durka, too, has been rehabilitated, and the former Peacekeeper expresses remorse for his actions. His apologies fall on deaf ears, however, and Rygel’s efforts to take revenge only compound the situation. Chiana escapes, Salis dies, and the crew must decide which criminal to trust.

A Human Reaction

FarscapeWhen Moya discovers a wormhole that appears to lead right to Earth, an overjoyed (if somewhat hesitant) Crichton attempts to make the journey home. His homecoming is not quite the happy event he anticipated, however, as the military doesn’t trust that he is who he says he is, or that he still has Earth’s best intentions at heart even if he is. Over time, and with some help from his father, he starts to convince his former colleagues and current captors that he can be trusted – until Aeryn, D’Argo, and Rygel show up looking for him. The military’s paranoia kicks into even higher gear, and when Rygel and D’Argo meet unfortunate ends, Crichton decides his loyalties lie with his former shipmates and tries to escape. Things aren’t quite right with the world outside the compound, either, and Crichton starts to wonder if he really made it home after all.

Through the Looking Glass

FarscapeWith Moya’s behavior becoming more unstable due to her pregnancy, the crew begins to wonder if it’s not time for them to find another home. Overhearing these remarks, Moya tries to prove herself and StarBursts before her systems are fully prepared. When the ship returns to normal, Rygel is missing, even though Pilot’s scans show him to be still onboard. Soon D’Argo and Aeryn disappear as well. Eventually, Crichton discovers that Moya has somehow gotten stuck in the border between dimensions, creating four Moyas all existing within the same space. The missing crew have each found their way onto one of the other Moyas, almost overwhelmed by the sensory distortions they encounter and being chased by some sort of clawed energy creature from beyond the barrier. Crichton develops a plan to try and reintegrate the Moyas, but time is of the essence. Not only is the creature still after them, but the Moyas themselves have begun to disintegrate.

A Bug’s Life

FarscapeWhen a Peacekeeper special ops team experiences a fuel leak, its commander demands that Moya bring them aboard and take them to a secret Peacekeeper base nearby. The crew decides to bluff their way through the encounter, as Rygel, Zhaan and D’Argo return to their cells while Crichton and Aeryn don Peacekeeper uniforms. Fate – and the size of the captain’s uniform left aboard Moya – demand that Crichton pose as the ship’s commander, and the charade goes reasonably well at first. When Rygel and Chiana decide to find out what’s so precious about their guests’ cargo, however, they unleash a sentient virus capable of possessing its host. The virus leaps from host to host, trying to buy time until Moya arrives at the base and its spores are ready to release, at which point hundreds of worlds will fall victim to it. With their cover blown, the crew must work with the Peacekeepers to figure out who can be trusted and how to recapture the virus, before its latest host kills them all.

Nerve

FarscapeCrichton is surprised to learn that Aeryn has not fully recovered from her injuries at the hands of the Peacekeeper commandos. While the muscle damage has healed, her paraphoral nerve, which helps to eliminate toxins from her system, has been irreparably damaged. Without a graft from a compatible donor, she will soon die. Crichton decides to try to pose as a Peacekeeper one more time, and find a donor at the Gammak base. With help from Chiana and his old friend Gilina, he manages to get a synthetic graft. But just as he’s ready to make his departure, the base’s deformed commander Scorpius realizes his energy signature is distinctly not Sebacean. As he’s captured, Crichton manages to smuggle the graft to Chiana, who gets it back to Moya and Aeryn. Scorpius places Crichton in the Aurora Chair, a device that allows Scorpius to bypass a verbal interrogation and access the subject’s memories directly. Searching for Crichton’s true mission aboard the base, Scorpius learns of Moya and its escape from Crais, but encounters a neural block when he tries to access Crichton’s encounter with the wormhole aliens. Pushing past the block, Scorpius – and Crichton – learn that the aliens placed the equations for wormhole travel into Crichton’s subconscious, to help guide his research. This is quite a find for Scorpius, whose own research seeks to unleash wormholes’ potential as weapons. To help convince Crichton to give up what he knows, Scorpius summons Crais, but Crichton won’t budge. What Scorpius doesn’t realize is that it’s not wormhole information Crichton is trying to hide – it’s Gilina, who’s still hiding in the base as Scorpius places Crichton in the Aurora Chair for one more go-round . . .
