The Peacekeeper Wars Part 2

Sikozu ignites the gas to begin the group’s escape, while a group of Luxan commandos led by Jothee – and with the advantage of modern stealth technology – picks up D’Argo and Chiana and launches an attack on the Scarran ship. During the escape, Crichton manages to transfer the fetus, successfully making Aeryn pregnant for the second time with the same child. On their way back to the water planet, Crichton concludes he’s out of options and takes the module to meet Einstein once more. This time, he wants all the restraints removed . . . now, he wants to know the secrets of wormhole weapons. Einstein agrees that it is time, even as he reminds Crichton that eventually, time ends.

On the water planet, Braca’s troops have tried to defend against Charrid attackers, but many of the Eidolon descendants have been killed. A small number remain, however, maybe even enough to do some good – if they can survive long enough. Stark transfers the ancient Eidolon’s knowledge to the leader of the surviving group. The Luxans and Moya’s crew prepare to join in the defense, and in the middle of the battle, Crichton and Aeryn’s child reveals he’s inherited his parents’ sense of timing. Mother and father finally say “I do” moments before baby makes three. The retreat from the water planet is not a bloodless one, as Scorpius discovers the identity of the Scarran spy and another of Moya’s crew perishes to ensure the others’ escape. Back on Moya, caught between the Scarrans and a Peacekeeper fleet led by Grayza, Crichton realizes the moment of truth has come: it is time to risk everything for one last opportunity for peace.

Cyberman: Fear Commander Liam Barnaby, the commander in chief of all Earth forces, doesn’t like being left out of the loop – but he discovers that Paul Hunt, a mysterious figure with ties to Scorpius who predicted Karen Brett’s rise to the presidency before her predecessor was assassinated, has edged him out as the President’s closest advisor. Worse yet, when Barnaby decides to dig deeper, he finds that Hunt has covered his tracks well, even ordering some of Barnaby’s own people in the military to make it difficult for anyone to investigate him. Barnaby traces Hunt’s residence to a woman named Samantha, but after he questions her about Hunt’s background, Barnaby is called to account for his investigation by President Brett herself. That confrontation leads him to the inevitable conclusion that his military career is about to be ended for him, but when Cybermen come after him, Barnaby’s life may become as short as his career. Samantha helps him, and then reveals the truth: she’s an enemy android on a deep-cover assignment, and her mission has changed. Instead of destroying humanity, she’s trying to find a way to keep humanity from destroying itself – but she and Barnaby find that it may be too late. The Cyber conversions have begun in earnest on Earth.

Flashback: Locke picks up a hitchhiker looking to find work and start a new life. Locke can empathize, having recently moved to a small farming commune. They are stopped by the police, and Locke cheerfully shows the cop the many legally-bought guns he’s carrying in his tailgate. Eddie, the hitchhiker, decides to hang around for several weeks, but starts asking Locke about what’s going on inside the camp’s greenhouse. He says he wants in on whatever the group is planning to blow up. Locke laughs at this and says he’ll talk to the camp’s leaders. When he does, he learns that Eddie is really an undercover cop. And since the greenhouse is full of marijuana, that’s a problem. One that Locke may be willing to do anything in order to eliminate.

The Island: Locke wakes up, struck mute by the implosion of the hatch. He finds Eko’s stick, and returns to camp. Charlie sees him, and agrees to stand watch while Locke builds a sweat lodge in order to communicate with the island. After taking some of his homemade hallucinogen, he sees a vision of Boone. Boone tells him to get in his wheelchair, and Boone pushes him through the airport. He sees other castaways, but Boone tells him that he can not help Jack, Kate and Sawyer until he cleans up his own mess. He has to go find Eko.

His voice returned, Locke heads out to track Eko, believing that the polar bear has him. Charlie accompanies him. They bump into Hurley returning from the Others’ camp, and tell him to return to the beach and warn the rest of the group. On the way, Hurley finds a naked Desmond, who seems reasonably happy not to be dead. Hurley offers him some clothes and asks him what they should do about Jack, Kate and Sawyer. Desmond replies that Locke will find them, just like he said in his speech. Since Locke hasn’t made such a speech, Hurley finds this more than a bit curious. Back in the jungle, Locke and Charlie find a barely-conscious and bloody Eko, who may or may not regain consciousness long enough to remind Locke that he needs to go find their friends – which Locke announces to Hurley and the others on the beach that he is going to do.

A young girl breaks into a high-tech complex disguised as a crumbling building in London, and is chased out of the building by three suited men with guns mounted on their decidedly artificial arms. When the girl is outside, she collapses in exhaustion – and notorious intergalactic criminal Androvax the Destroyer is revealed as having commandeered her body. He gives his pursuers the slip and flees.

Androvax next appears on Bannerman Road, where he takes over Rani’s body and asks Sarah Jane for help. The men pursuing him have locked Androvax’s entire civilization, the Veils, into a hyperdimensional vault, fearing that all of his people will be capable of the same crimes as Androvax himself. Since the android men in black are expecting Androvax, he needs Sarah’s help to free the Veils. But it’s only once Sarah, Clyde and Rani have been noticed by the men in black that it becomes apparent that Androvax isn’t telling them everything.

Notes: Androvax first appeared in the season 3 opener Prisoner Of The Judoon. Sarah gives MR. Smith the task of jamming transmission from NASA’s Mars Rover (presumably the Opportunity rover, since its identical twin, Spirit, has been marooned in Martian sand since April 2009); if Mr. Smith hadn’t accomplished this task, a large pyramid would’ve been visible in transmissions returned to Earth. Since Sarah says the pyramids was constructed by an ancient and “terrible” civilization, it’s presumably one of the Pyramids of Mars constructed by the Osirans, which Sarah herself visited with the fourth Doctor in the 1976 Doctor Who story of the same name. In this episode, Tommy Knight appears as Luke via webcam only.

The real power behind Serf has been revealed: the hologram of the long-dead computer tycoon is being generated by enslaved aliens, at the behest of Serf’s former business partner. Desperate to keep the truth from getting out, he locks up Sarah, Sky and Luke, and threatens the alien minions trapped in the bowels of the Serf Systems building. After receiving a message from Luke, Clyde and Rani go undercover to get into Serf’s building to rescue Sarah and the others. Sarah finds that others have been detained in order to keep Serf’s illusion a secret, and helps to free them as well. But can the plot be exposed before Serf’s hypnotic hologram persuades the public to buy a SerfBoard for every home?

Notes: The was the final episode of The Sarah Jane Adventures produced before production was halted due to Elisabeth Sladen’s health. She died on April 19th after a lengthy battle with cancer, and the three two-part stories already “in the can” for the fifth season were completed and aired in October of that year, wrapping up the series. A special montage covering the entire series was added to the end of The Man Who Never Was. With no new season of Torchwood commissioned following Miracle Day, the end of The Sarah Jane Adventures also marks the end of Russell T. Davies’ involvement in the Doctor Who universe.

Guest star Dan Starkey is better known as the actor most frequently engaged to play Sontaran roles in both Sarah Jane Adventures and the new Doctor Who; he has also begun providing Sontaran voices for Big Finish Productions’ Doctor Who audio stories. Alexander Armstrong, the voice of Sarah’s sentient computer Mr. Smith, would go on to appear (in person for once!) in the 2011 Doctor Who Christmas special.

Lister, Rimmer, Kryten and Cat set about trying to build a device, whose parts were found aboard the derelict ship, which will rejuvenate their bodies to the peak of health. Thanks to a major misunderstanding of the assembly instructions (printed in Swedish), the device malfunctions seriously, sending the four back in time to Earth, in the year 23 A.D. They have a device that will allow them to return to Red Dwarf, but must build their own battery for it, since none was installed prior to their accidental time travel. The search for their first battery ingredient, lemons, sends them on a six-month trek across Europe and Asia on foot, where they meet a man named Jesus. The undue attention they pay to him attracts the attention of soldiers who are already pursuing him, leaving them with no choice but to bring Jesus to the future and to Red Dwarf – history will be rewritten either way, but the time travel options prevents Jesus’ premature death. Once aboard Red Dwarf, it’s practically unavoidable that Jesus eventually learns of his pivotal place in human history, and the fate that awaits him if he returns.

Stardate 6988.4: The Enterprise is en route back to Earth. Her mission is complete, and the venerable decades-old starship is due for a major refit. But a communication from Starfleet changes the Enterprise‘s orders one last time: a distress call from a far-flung Federation colony has been received, and naturally the Enterprise is the only ship even remotely close enough to render aid. Arriving at the colony, Kirk and Spock have to defeat an automated defense system before they even set eyes on any living people. A human woman named Lana and her Vulcan husband, Sentek, claim to be the sole survivors of a disaster, but their story doesn’t quite add up. They are revealed to be uplifted Espers – humanoids with powerful psionic potential elevated by exposure to an energy barrier that surrounds the galaxy. They need a ship to rejoin their fellow Espers in a plan to conquer the entire Federation…and they have decided the Enterprise meets their needs nicely.

Notes: The Espers were first encountered in the second Star Trek pilot, Where No Man Has Gone Before, when the Enterprise‘s original first officer, Gary Mitchell, and ship’s psychologist Elizabeth Dehner were uplifted during a brief encounter with the galactic barrier (which, for the record, is a fictional construct existing only in Star Trek mythology). The Romulan Commander was first encountered in The Enterprise Incident in the original series’ third season, and is here played by the daughter of the original actress, Joanna Linville. Nicola Bryant has decades of genre cred, stemming mostly from a single character, Perugilliam “Peri” Brown, companion of Doctor Who‘s sixth incarnation, a role she originated in 1984 and continues to play in Big Finish’s Doctor Who audio plays. Canadian actor Cas Anvar has appeared in everything from Are You Afraid Of The Dark? to a 2002 adaptation of Ursula K. LeGuin’s Lathe Of Heaven, to appearances in Lost, Argo, voice roles in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and the regular role of Alex Kamal in The Expanse. Nebula Award-winning novelist Robert J.
