Classic Season 04 Doctor Who

The Macra Terror

Doctor WhoIn the future, the Doctor, Jamie, Ben and Polly arrive at a human colony, whose people find them just as they catch up with a refugee named Medok. Medok is treated like a criminal, and even as the colonists show the time travelers their miraculous machines, Medok warns of creatures that stalk the colony. The Doctor later sets him free, much to the consternation of the colony’s leaders. He follows Medok to a construction site outside the colony, where he discovers enormous, crab-like creatures called Macra. As the Doctor’s friends sleep, a hypnotic voice extolls the virtues of obeying the colony rules; when they awaken, Ben betrays the Doctor to the colony authorities. Polly flees and Ben pursues her, but once they catch a glimpse of the Macra, even Ben can no longer deny that this colony is under the control of aliens. Jamie escapes into a shaft where the colonists mine a poisonous gas that none of them can breathe – but the Macra can breathe it, and they’ve seized control of the colonists’ minds to ensure that their supply of gas continues. But the Doctor can convince the innocent colonists of none of this.

The HighwaymanTurned away from a UFO crash site – and possibly the biggest story of her life – a reporter settles for hitching a ride with the Highwayman, who – unknown to her – is hauling the charred and highly radioactive remains of the UFO’s sole occupant to a military medical facility. His truck’s motion detectors pick up movement of the cargo, and it’s then that the reporter’s eyes take on a green glow – the consciousness of the UFO’s pilot has jumped to her body. At the medical facility, it continues going from person to person until it possesses the Highwayman himself, taking him over in a bid to signal for help from others of its kind – aliens who could easily enslave the Earth if they’re summoned there.

Dark Forces Star Wars

Rebel Agent – Part I

Star Wars: Dark ForcesFive years after the fall of the Empire at Endor, Kyle Katarn slips away on an unauthorized personal mission to Nar Shadaa, and quickly draws the wrong kind of attention – bounty hunters have been hired by Lord Jerec to literally bring Kyle’s head to the dark Jedi. In this case, they’re hired by a droid dispatched by Jerec to ensure that the job gets done. The droid has tried to enlist the best of the best, including Boba Fett himself, but when he turns the job down, less experienced mercenaries try to take Kyle out. Jerec’s droid taunts Kyle with a disc containing an encoded message from his father. Kyle takes reckless, death-defying risks to shake off or dispose of his attackers and reach the disc, but at a high cost. Fortunately, Jan Ors has taken on an equally unauthorized mission to follow Kyle in case he winds up in trouble. Remnants of the Empire quickly converge to capture Kyle, and even when Jan rescues him, he has suffered critical injuries.

Dark Forces Star Wars

Rebel Agent – Part II

Star Wars: Dark ForcesMon Mothma begins an inquiry into Kyle Katarn’s unauthorized adventure on Nar Shadaa, and brings Luke and Leia with her. Jan reveals the disc containing a message from Kyle’s father, and Luke’s interest is piqued in the message’s mention of the legendary Valley of the Jedi, as well as the prospect that Kyle shares a talent with the Force. Leia and Mon Mothma protest that the search for this valley, and the immense power it’s rumored to hold, represents a new quest that the Rebels are stretched too thin to undertake. But Luke, who has also heard of the Valley of the Jedi, insists that Kyle should be given enough leeway to find it. Mon Mothma reluctantly agrees, but assigns Jan to follow Kyle – and, again, orders Jan to kill him if he shows signs of turning against the Alliance and using the Valley’s power for his own gain.

Day of the Dead

Babylon 5As famous comedians Rebo and Zooty bring their unique brand of humor to Babylon 5, Captain Lochley negotiates a deal with the Brakiri ambassador to sell part of the station to them for one night as part of the Brakiri Day of the Dead celebration. Under the agreement, part of Babylon 5 will officially become part of the Brakiri homeworld for the duration of their holiday, and Lochley assumes that this is a ceremonial relocation that will take place only on paper. This assumption turns out to be wrong in every important respect when anyone remaining inside the new Brakiri borders on the station finds that they are suddenly light years away from the rest of Babylon 5.

Threads

Stargate SG-1In the wake of the successful Jaffa revolution and the final destruction of the Replicators, Teal’c and Bra’tac are honored as heroes, but the Jaffa retain control of the Ancients’ weapon on Dakara. Teal’c and Bra’tac reluctantly contemplate their future as leaders of a new Jaffa government even as the rebel Jaffa fleet sets off to pursue Anubis’ forces. Daniel finds himself in a limbo that curiously resembles a diner, and Oma is there too, though she isn’t exactly forthcoming with any details of whether Daniel is closer to life or death. The only other person in the diner who will pay Daniel any heed is a garrolous patron who seems to be almost too eager to tell Daniel what’s happening – particularly with regard to a ruse that Anubis has used to lure the Jaffa into a trap. And at the SGC, Carter’s father reveals that his symbiont’s imminent death will mean his own – and urges Carter to seek out happiness before she, too, is facing down her own mortality.

The Gift

Stargate AtlantisTeyla awakens from a terrifying dream about a Wraith infiltrating Atlantis and killing Sheppard. The rest of the Atlantis team is still trying to find a defense against the approaching Wraith hive ships before they arrive, and a new control chair is found that could allow the crew to protect the city more effectively. Teyla uncovers another possible avenue, however – the discovery of a Wraith log device reveals that some of Teyla’s people, including Teyla herself, have a small amount of Wraith DNA. Those with this rare “gift” can sometimes hear voices, and Beckett theorizes that perhaps the ability includes a fleeting telepathic link with the Wraith. Teyla agrees to be subjected to an experiment to see if she can tap into the Wraith – but if the link goes both ways, she may become a deadly liability.

The Hand Of God

Battlestar GalacticaA crtical shortage of tylium ore, needed to fuel every ship in the Colonial fleet, could end humanity’s flight from the Cylons prematurely. A mission to find planets or asteroids rich in tylium finds a very promising candidate – but it’s an asteroid that’s crawling with Cylons, complete with a well-defended base. For lack of any better options that wouldn’t leave the fleet in more dire danger of exhausting its fuel, Commander Adama decides that the time has come for an all-or-nothing strike on the Cylon base. It’s not a risk-free plan, and it won’t come without casualties, but when the plan of attack begins to unravel it falls to Apollo to risk everything to complete the mission – by himself if necessary, and regardless of the risk.

The Son Also Rises

Battlestar GalacticaStill recovering from the apparent death of Starbuck, Adama and Apollo struggle to move directly from that tragedy into their preparations for the trial of Gaius Baltar. The Admiral is selected at random to head a panel of judges, and if necessary to serve as the tiebreaker. Apollo is assigned to be the bodyguard for Baltar’s new lawyer (his original attorney having died in a terrorist-style bombing), though he doesn’t take to his new job with much enthusiasm, accusing his father of yanking him from flight rotation due to his emotional state. Baltar’s new attorney doesn’t inspire much confidence either, initially telling President Roslin that he’s taking the case for the fame it will bring him. Another assassination attempt forces Apollo to look at the situation more seriously, and to reign in the lawyer’s eccentricities. The next attempt on his life comes much closer to the mark, and provides Apollo with the evidence that it’s an inside job.
