Star BlazersThe Argo warps back toward Earth, desperately trying to join the planetary defense forces before the Comet Empire can put itself back on its heading for Earth. Prince Zordar, already anticipating Wildstar’s mad dash back to Earth, orders an invasion fleet to proceed toward Earth’s solar system. With the Argo still at least another warp away, the defense of Earth rests with Captain Gideon and the EDF’s flagship, Andromeda. Gideon gathers all available ships, overriding their orders from Earth, to cut the Comet Empire forces off at Saturn. In the meantime, Desslock – who has been locked in a prison cell by Princess Invidia – manages to get free, take her hostage, and fight his way off of the Comet Empire and rejoin the few remaining Gamilon ships. Troi and Conor enter a relationship, while engineer Hannah Bates works alongside Geordi to strive for an impossible discovery – moving the massive chunk of star debris without evacuating – and thus imbalancing – the colony. Bester learns of a plan to tarnish B5’s public image by having a squadron of Psi Corps’ Black Omega fighters attack the blockade at the nearest Earth outpost to the station, claiming to be from Babylon 5, and travels to the station to warn Sheridan. But the price for this information is an ill-advised trip to Z’Ha’Dum so Bester can try to recover Shadow technology that could free his former lover from their influence, a trip which is cut short when an intruder detection system destroys Z’Ha’Dum completely. Other surprises include Garibaldi’s sudden resignation after receiving a mysterious call, Londo and G’Kar returning to the station, the arrival of a new alien race on Centauri Prime, and at least one Elvis sighting.

Bliss

Star Trek: VoyagerStardate 52542.3: Voyager’s sensors detect a wormhole that qualifies as nothing short of a miracle – not only is the wormhole stable for the time being, but sensors and probes indicate that it will deposit Voyager directly into Earth space. Janeway is initially very suspicious, but this soon gives way to joyous anticipation of a return home. Only Seven of Nine retains any semblance of suspicion, an intuitive caution which is reinforced when she visually spots a ship trapped in the interior of the wormhole – even though the ship’s sensors aren’t picking it up. Seven thinks that something or someone is manipulating the crew’s expectations, feeding them exactly what they want to see and hear…but she isn’t prepared for the possibility that this force also has enough control over the crew to put their Borg skeptic out of commission.

Season 09 SG-1 Stargate

Off the Grid

Stargate SG-1An SG team discovers that the Lucian Alliance is supplying a highly addictive variety of corn called kassa to several worlds. SG-1 goes undercover to investiage, but Mitchell’s attempt to pose as a buyer quickly goes awry. Their attempt to escape through the stargate is foiled when the gate and the DHD disappear, apparently beamed offworld by Asgard technology. SG-1 is captured and tortured.

Landry sends the Odyssey, a new Daedalus-class ship, on a shakedown cruise to rescue SG-1 while he heads to Area 51 to seek more information from Nerus. The hungry Goa’uld confirms that he helped Ba’al develop a method of removing stargates from the central network, which would give him the ability to use the captured gates to create a new network under his control. He provides little other useful information, but does confirm a fondness for cupcakes before giving Landry an ultimatum – any further intelligence will come at the cost of his freedom. Landry reluctantly agrees.

Odyssey rescues SG-1 in the nick of time, using new implanted locator chips to identify their positions. They’re not the only ones with hidden tracers, though – Landry has packed one along with Nerus, and infected several of Nerus’s machines with a virus as well. This gives the Odyssey a chance to beam SG-1 over to Ba’al’s ship and retrieve the stargates. Ba’al kills Nerus and manages to regain some amount of control over his ship, blocking SG-1 from beaming out. And when the Lucian Alliance brings ships into the fray, the team will have to find a way to get the gates and themselves off Ba’al’s ship before the Alliance exacts its revenge.

Primeval Season 1

Episode 1

PrimevalPaleontologist Dr. Nick Cutter finds his attention drawn to a recent sighting of a “monster” near the Forest of Dean. Initially setting out to debunk it as a hoax, Cutter and his assistant, Stephen Hart, stumble upon evidence that something roughly the size and weight of a dinosaur has been active in the forest. Recently laid-off zoo employee Abby Maitland, following up on a letter from a young boy who needs help with an unusual lizard, makes a house call and discovers that the lizard in question is a new species. Asking the creature’s owner to show her where it was found, Abby also wanders into the Forest of Dean, stumbling upon Cutter’s expedition just as an enormous creature moves past them. The discovery of a glowing portal, hanging in the air, throws Cutter’s entire conception of science into chaos: the portal leads to what appears to be prehistoric Earth, from which the creatures – both large and small – are originating. The British government soon gets involved, over Cutter’s objections; the scientist now thinks his missing wife (long presumed dead) may have wandered through one of the anomalies, and intends to explore the past and look for her. The government, in the person of Sir James Lester, is far more interested in sealing off what could be the biggest threat to public safety ever known.

Notes: Devised by Adrian Hodge and Tim Haines, creators and producers of the popular Walking With Dinosaurs documentary series, Primeval not only offered a new venue for the realistic CGI dinosaurs that had become a hallmark of their work, but was also ITV’s most popular attempt to create a science fiction series to rival the BBC’s revival of Doctor Who. Ironically, it was BBC America that gave Primeval exposure in the US.

Battleground

Blake's 7Having become aware of a Federation equivalent to Orac – which may even be able to detect where the Liberator is by detecting Orac – the crew is racing to find the mind behind its development, a Federation officer named Mikhailov. Orac has narrowed down a list of possible leads, all of whom have proven not to be the person Blake and his crew are seeking. Only one possibility remains, on the planet Straxis, a world known informally to the Federation as Battleground 9. The planet is heavily defended, and when Blake and Avon teleport down, they find a war in progress between the Federation and forces led by a deposed Federation governor. He was removed from office and sent to Battleground 9 to serve as cannon fodder for training exercises, but he has instead organized a functional resistance movement that has become a thorn in the Federation’s side. Blake and Avon meet up with this rebel group, but are separated in the fierce shelling; Avon is captured by the Federation and interrogated by the officer grading the current training exercise – none other than Mikhailov herself, who finds herself answering as many questions as she is asking.

The Call

Star Wars: RebelsHera, Kanan and the others are running low on fuel as they prepare to raid a mining guild platform based in an asteroid field – a much-needed supply of fuel for both the Ghost and the Rebel fleet, and intercepting its latest fuel shipment would also prevent that fuel from being used by the Empire. But a swarm of whale-like space creatures gets in the way…until Ezra points out that they’re heading for the asteroid where the mining platform is. The creatures need the unrefined gas that is used to make starship fuel, so destroying the entire asteroid and igniting the gas is no longer part of the plan, much to Hera’s frustration. Can they really bet everything on Ezra’s Force connection to these creatures?
