At about 3 o’ clock on Saturday, October 5, 1999, I met the new chestnut mare my wife had bought. That’s when the horse decided, mainly after I let her wolf down a whole carrot in one gulp, that she liked me even better than my wife.
February 2000: chowing down with her stablemate, Riyala. Neither of them were very fond of those ostriches.
October 2000: the day we discovered only a select few can get a halter and lead rope on Sultry.
November 2000: eating out of the palm of your hand.
April 2001: I love this picture; it captures how wild and stormy Sultry could be. In retrospect, the body of water bugs me a bit.
December 2001: resplendent in sunset.
August 2004: getting ready to chow down in the barn.
September 2004: the horse equivalent of a glamor shot.
April 2005: chowtime!
April 2006: she was having a hard time seeing them, but Sultry loved all of the babies we had this summer…
…and she’d make the rounds so everyone got a visit from “Auntie Sultry.”
May 2006: one last twilight beauty shot after being groomed.
Waiting to be fed at the barn.
