The boy hit the big oh-six today. Cake was eaten, Ninja Turtles and books were unwrapped, and a good time was had by all!
His new science books were bigger than he expected, but he’s very excited about them. (There’s another big book, about fish and ocean life, that isn’t seen here, roughly the same size, and a bunch of new National Geographic readers, which get read at bedtime quite a bit.)
But they can’t all be about science…
Some are about hedgehogs…
And then there was that time with the turtles…
And some goodies from his favorite new cartoon of the year…
Anytime he wound up with clothes, he gamely held them up for a picture and said “CLOTHES!”, like he was saying “Cheese!” He knows how to make the fam happy. 😆
He opened this one almost last; good thing, because he’s REALLY excited to try it out (sorry, buddy, it’s gotta wait until after school Friday!).
He got plenty of new clothes (which, speaking as the guy who has to figure out what the boy’s gonna wear every morning, are appreciated beyond measure), and I also got him a game that’s kind of like a cross between dominoes and Scrabble (and the letter tiles are kept in a big plush apple with a zipper on it, which is his favorite part of the whole package).
Did I blow ridiculous money on his birthday? Oh yeah – well, what we’d consider ridiculous at our present income level. But he’s only going to turn six once and we’re not in debt as a result. And he’s a happy little voracious reader.
