I spent my Saturday hawking my wares at Darkon today in Tulsa. For those not in the know, it’s a horror/supernatural/just a little bit of sci-fi type convention, and as usual I was pounding the pavement – well, the carpet – well, that sounds way dirtier than I meant it to – trying to sell copies of VWORP!1. And there was some awesome stuff to see there.
Right next to my table was a large display of screen-used props and replicas from Alien and Aliens. Just beautiful stuff, and not something I ever expected to be staring at all day from a distance of a few feet.
You might think I ogled the space suits (I did)…
Down to the newly fitted custom electronics…
You might think all of this awesomeness made me want to self-destruct…
…not that it did, of course…
You might even think I just needed a hug. On my face. (I don’t.)
HOWDY.
But what dazzled me more than anything? A fully working, full-size Tom Servo puppet. Yes, I was in a room all day with Garrett Wang (Star Trek: Voyager), Ed Gale (Child’s Play) and Matt Frewer… and I totally geek out over Tom Servo.
I was, in fact, being a total little kid here. I might come home with more than one robot in the back seat*.
* if I suddenly win the lottery tomorrow while I’m driving back to Tulsa.
