It seems like, for nearly every OVGE I attend, there’s one Cool Idea that falls through the cracks – something I just ran out of time or money to execute properly. This is one of those. But I might just save it for some unspecified point in the future.
The one that got away this year was slated to be a magazine supplement/sidebar to VWORP!1 called VWORP!i. The “i” was for “interactive”: VWORP!i was meant to be the Phosphor Dot Fossils sidekick to VWORP!1, covering computer and video games built around the Doctor Who universe down through the years.
I got as far as a partial layout, including a cover, which was a colorful “ASCII art” take on the VWORP!1 cover. If I do get around to releasing VWORP!i at some point, I think it’ll have its own, more distinct, cover – its own animal, so to speak. I might try to get it ready for next year, or I might do it as a downloadable at some point. Since you can hardly do a video game book (or booklet) without screen shots, VWORP!i would fall into even greyer area, copyright-wise, than VWORP!1 itself. It may well be a download-only bonus. Time simply ran out to edit and lay out a whole separate publication to have ready at this year’s OVGE.
For now, I’m concentrating on laying out the skeleton of WARP!1, as well as doing copious amounts of writing for it, and on finishing the summer edition of theLogBook.com’s free downloadable e-zine (I haven’t forgotten it, but it went a long time without any meaningful work being done on it, during the sprint to the finish line with VWORP!1). After polling the ‘zine’s readers about the preferences for color or B&W, I quickly got the message that nobody’s committing theLogBook ‘zine to paper, so the next issue will, in fact, be extremely colorful.
VWORP!i will be resurrected in some form down the road; I’m just sorry there wasn’t enough of me to go around and get it finished this year.
So… see you tomorrow at OVGE! Oh, and there’s also a blog entry already written for tomorrow, because it’s a very special day in our house (no, not just Daddy’s Gone All Day!). For those who’ll be at the show itself, you get to be the first ones to lay eyes on the final cover artwork for VWORP!2 and the next two ‘zine covers.
