Maybe you’d better rephrase that
Let me be the first to say that there’s nothing funny about the severe weather that’s been killing folks by the dozen across the southern states. I’ve seen videos of Alabama tornadoes tonight that make me want to mess my pants, even though I’m on Youtube. Stuff like that makes me feel pretty sheepish about posting cell phone photos of the relatively mousy little rotating wall cloud that drifted over my house last night.
That being said, I’ve always thought that one of the first duties one has after something like this is to find a reason to smile. And the following gem from CNN.com fits the bill nicely. … Read more
Say hello to my little rotating friend
This dropped a heap of gigantic hail on my house a while ago (thanks so much for that, by the way).
These aren’t the droid games you’re looking for
It’s been a stormy weekend here, so it’s a good thing the tablet‘s been charged up, just in case the lights go out and we get bored. (We’ve got four nervous cats and two nervous dogs in the house – what are the odds of boredom there?) I tried out a couple of Anrdoid emulators on my tablet, and here’s what I found out. … Read more
Enter G-Dawg
Alas, poor Xena. She’s getting up there in years; make that dog years and she’s really getting up there. She’s served us well as a guard dog and faithful friend. And she’s not going anywhere, except her doghouse here of late. Therein lies the problem: she’s pretty much retired herself from being a terribly effective guard dog. A few token alarm barks and back into her doghouse with what I can only imagine amounts to the dog version of “ah, screw it.” So we need a guard dog to take over from her and learn from her. Enter… Gabby.
Exterminate the sheep!
Little E and I have been watching Shaun The Sheep quite a bit. For those not in the know, it’s an amusing series of short (~7 minutes) stop-motion animated funnies from Aardman, the UK studio behind Wallace & Gromit, about a herd of sheep whose fondest wish seems to be to share in the creature comforts of their human owner, despite the best efforts of his sheep-herding dog. Shaun is the cleverest of the sheep and hatches schemes that lead to hilarity, etc. etc. In one of the shows we saw tonight, the sheep set up a surprise costume party at the man’s house, and they themselves were the guests. See if you spot something unusual in the screen shots below. … Read more
Tablet 2.0
As promised, though it took long enough to finally happen, my replacement Sylvania tablet arrived last week. Though I gather the company has already discontinued the item (my guess: they wanted to cash in in time for Black Friday 2010, and then they beat a hasty retreat when stuff like the Motorola Xoom started peeking over the horizon), this is a slightly newer model, upgraded to Android 2.2. Ahead of the new machine’s arrival, I invested in a couple of modest extras for the anticipated replacement. … Read more
The new tablet is here
The replacement for my Sylvania / Digital Gadgets tablet is here. First impressions:
I like Android 2.2 very much.
The damn thing charges so much faster when you plug the thingie into the AC port rather than the headphone jack.… Read more
A generational family album of kittehs
You may remember this photo from this post in 2007 – the “O” series:
From left to right, oldest to youngest: Othello, Oberon, Olivia.
The other day, I got this photo of the “P” series in the same window:
“O” cats = Othello and his trainees.
“P” cats = post-Othello: Puck and his trainee(s).
(this blog post typed with Portia sitting on the mousepad)… Read more
