Random musings about kittens and technology

A post in which I shall blawg about nifty feats of geekery and show you pictures of cute kittens – i.e. a typical blog entry from me.

Today I finally accomplished something I’ve been trying to do unsuccessfully for quite a while: get my NEC MobilePro handheld PC to access, via wi-fi, the other machines on my home network which are acting as servers. I was really mainly interested in being able to access two shared directories: one in which I have all e-books, scans of printed material, etc., and one which is set aside for scans of the booklets from all of the CDs in my music library. I’ve been trying, slowly but steadily, to “digitize” as much of my life as possible: papers, documents, photos, and so on. I write the bulk of the reviews and articles for the site while I’m away from my desktop, so it’s nice being able to call up the scans for a CD booklet and check the credits or liner notes for something. This has proven, until now, to be a bit difficult because the MobilePro is old enough that it’s not quite on the same page with an XP-driven Microsoft Windows network as far as naming conventions, etc.; now it all works just fine and dandy, and I’ve got one hell of a library for toilet reading. Just sayin’.

Now onto the important stuff: kittens! The little ones no longer stay in the box; they’ve invaded the bathtub and I’m sure they’re working up invasion plans for the whole house. They’re walking very well, wrestling each other, hopping a little (I’m sure it’ll be jumping here in a week or two), and driving their mom NUTS.

Taxi + kittens
Taxi contemplates the fact that (A) she’s the octomom of the cat world, and (2) she he unleashed a force that she cannot hope to control.

Kittens
You want to adopt me, don’t you? This one is one of a pair of… if they’re not twins, then they’re damn close. They both sit and stand in exactly the same position when they’re together – it’s like the Stepford Kittens.

Kittens
I’m going to go ahead and fess up: this is one I want to keep. Darkest of the dark grey kitties, with quite a fun personality. And so cuddly and friendly and trusting; some of the kittens, when we reach in and grab them, instantly start calling for mom. This one’s more like “Hey, cool! I’m out of the tub. I’m going to climb you now, okay?”

Kittens
I would also like to keep this one – mostly white, but I have a feeling that when we’re a bit bigger, we’re going to look a lot like our mother, who as many of you have commented is quite an attractive cat. Obviously a little camera shy. My wife’s not crazy about me adopting two of the babies…I understand. That’s two who will need shots, and two who will need to be rewired so they don’t go having babies or causing babies to happen, and they’ll both need this stuff at the same time. Still, I’m a two-cat kinda guy. And these two – the darkest and lightest of the litter – remind me of someone for some reason…
