OEGE plans

Those of you who are sick to death of hearing me talk about my plans for the video-game-oriented OEGE convention in Oklahoma City next weekend can feel free to skip this one. 😛

I don’t know what’s scarier, the fact that the show’s now less than a week away, or the fact that I’m dangerously close to actually being ready for it this far out. There’s some DVD duplicating and packaging-printing still to be done, but I’m pretty close to being done on that front. Still remaining to be done: making the demo loop DVD that’ll run at the booth, and going through the boxes of games I’m bringing to sell and attaching prices to everything. I can tell you that prices won’t be exorbitant – many of the carts are loose, with all that that implies, and to be honest, those games being up for grabs is as much about clearing space/inventory as it is making a buck, if not moreso.

I’m also still working on what systems to bring. I like to bring stuff that you don’t see every day, and right now it looks like I’ll have three screens set up. I’m leaning toward the oddball trio of the Magnavox Odyssey (I still need to get this out and test it out), the Nintendo Famicom, and Atari Video Music (which will probably be taking its audio from the DVD loop). Why those three? You just don’t see them every day. The Odyssey Shooting Gallery will probably be staying at home because hey, let’s face it, even if it’s obviously plastic and has a huge cord coming out of the back of it, I’m still not sure that whipping out a life-size rifle in a crowded room falls under the heading of “good ideas I had today.” Especially not in a conceal & carry state like Oklahoma. I’d really like for my last words to not be “But it’s only a light gun! I know the guy who invented it!” 😆 But the others are definitely not something you see every day, and the Odyssey and Famicom are both in their original boxes. I know there are probably folks who think I need to be checked for a fever if I’m not bringing an Odyssey2, but I thought the Famicom would probably resonate better with a crowd that was born while the NES was in full force on the market.

I also need to generate the legendary Phosphor Dot Fossils signage that accompanies me to any show too. That’ll probably go hand in hand with the pricing and price-tag-generating.

Other than that…what’s really scary is not just that I’m much closer to having my shit together than usual, but that I’ve done it while looking after a (once again) sick kiddo and doing the usual household tasks.

I’m looking forward to the show, but as always when I’m an exhibitor, I’m also looking forward to it being over. Kind of a strange form of anticipation, eh? So much of what I’ve done this year boils down to being ready for one day that I’m ready to get that one day past me and get rid of the stress. And then get to work on the book in earnest. 😆

Other stuff I’m looking forward to this year…it’s kinda sad how many of these boil down to release dates for TV episodes and soundtrack CDs.

The rest of the Doctor Who specials for this year
Sarah Jane Adventures season 3
K-9 season 1
OVGE 2009? – still haven’t heard a peep about this.

And that’s just the silly stuff that I look forward to between the important stuff (like hanging out with Evan). But first, I have to get through this show. Just a week away…
