Can you tell I’ve fallen off the wagon with my Doctor Who figure collecting? I suppose there are worse habits to pick up again. You can spare yourself the toy talk by not clicking here.
This is an image, published just a bit early by a British retailer’s website, of an upcoming box set of figures – namely the two Sontaran leader characters, one helmeted Sontaran soldier, and Donna wearing an outfit she didn’t wear in the Sontaran episode. 😆 Still, with Character Options apparently reporting that none of the non-companion female characters they’ve made are leaving stores in any great numbers, and with plenty of Martha still warming the pegs, it could be that they’ve decided this is the only way they’ll get Donna to sell. Kinda sad, really – I’d buy Donna as a singular character anyway. But that’s likely just me. The Sontarans – even though I’m sure we’re looking at a photo of the figure prototypes – look great, and really, Donna does too. I’m always up for collecting figures that look this good.
Which brings us to…well…Captain Jack and Captain Jack here. On the left, you see Character Options’ newly revised Captain Jack Harkness for the Doctor Who range, due out later this month, and on the right, Captain Jack from the first wave of Torchwood figures being released in August by scificollector.co.uk. I’ve seen some different photos of the CO Jack that give you a clearer shot of the face that actually looks not unlike Barrowman (from this photo, I’d swear up and down that CO thinks Patrick Swayze is playing the part); if so, that one gets my vote for the trenchcoat alone. The Torchwood figure isn’t bad, and Jack does sport the suspenders look often enough to merit a figure with that outfit, but the facial likeness isn’t great here either. That being said, they’re both a damn sight better than the first Captain Jack figure CO released a year or two back – that one looks like a janitor and has a disturbingly thick neck. 😆
Worth a reminder here: I’ll have some duplicate Who figures, both carded and loose, including some Daleks, at OVGE in August – be sure to snatch ’em up and help support my habit here. 😆
