I don’t do the link thing too often, but this site is absolutely brilliant if you’re a fan of 2001: a space odyssey (which, speaking as someone who’s got a working HAL 9000 prop hanging on the well next to him, I suppose I must be). Go visit The HAL Project now – I’m gonna have to try that sweet screen saver on the monitor that just happens to be sitting next to my HAL. 😀
Cool site but, unfortunately, the coolest stuff is still under construction. 🙁
The final for my Flash class is coming up (in fact the storyboards are due Monday) and I considered doing a 2001 tribute. This site would have provided some inspiration. However, now I’m thinking about some kind of Altair tribute instead (the biggest problem is including videos – videos of a computer? Sounds boring). Perhaps I could structure the Flash file like the HAL project.
If you’ve got video of the Altair, I’ve got Sorenson Squeeze, which works a treat for turning video into very nice, clear Flash video. But the HAL Project would be a good jumping-off point – I almost wish it had more “hidden features” in among the background graphics, a la Homestar.
Thanks for the offer but Flash MX has a version of Sorenson squeeze built-in. I’m sure it’s not as sophisitcated as what you got but it’ll do for my project.
The thing is I don’t have any video of the Altair and so I’ll have to take a different route. I’ve decided to make my project Superman related since I have access to plenty of Superman videos (the Max Fleischman cartoons, mostly).
