Since it’s Father’s Day, it seems like a good day to check up on all those cute fillies who have arrived at our farm this spring, and see how fast they’re growing.
Last time we checked in with “Whinny Horse” and her filly, it was late April. They’ve now moved into one of the bigger pens, with their own barn (they share it with Riyala and her baby) and they’re doing just fine. Whinny’s a little skinny, but that’s not uncommon with a nursing mom – it just means we have to feed her more! Here they are today:
Emma and her baby are doing well too, though they’re still in the same pen at the “big barn.” Like most of the babies, “Little Em” now has her own food bucket, though she and the other fillies are still relying on a healthy dose of milk from mom. And here are Emma and her filly today, chowing down on hay:
Tal’s baby was only born earlier this month, so there isn’t a whole lot to report. She’s as cute as can be, though that’s to be expected, since she’s Boss’ half-sister.
In fact, over a couple of weeks, it looks like not much has changed at all! 😆
“Little Mallie” was born in mid-May, and she’s grown like a weed. She alternates between being completely shy and completely in-your-face – typical little kid really. And here it looks like she’s been rolling in the mud and getting herself good and dirty:
And here she is all up in my face:
Riyala’s baby is another half-sister of Boss, born about a day after he was born. (Sorry I don’t have a better “before” picture of her that wasn’t taken at 3am – I thought I did.) Riyala’s baby – I’ve been calling her “Riyala Replay” – is beautiful, but she’s an unashamed daddy’s girl. This little filly struts around and whinnies, and her daddy talks back to her from the big barn. Showoff!
As for Hannah, she’s calmed down quite a bit after the whole mess with Boss. She’s now in a pen with her mother, Shel Hannah – so this is still a mother and daughter picture. Hannah will have a year off before we try to breed her again.
This is “Ex” (a.k.a. “Executive Decision”). He lives next to Shel and Hannah, and he just wanted me to take his picture.
And a big Father’s Day shout-out to the “dirty old man” of the farm, Midnight. He still thinks he’s got what all those mares need. (He doesn’t – hasn’t for a long time. He just acts like it.) He’s almost as old as I am.
If you’re still looking for the perfect gift for Father’s Day, or you’re running way the hell behind on Mother’s Day, consider this delightful floral arrangement, complete with a spazzing calico kitten centerpiece. Nothing says “I love you” like a small ball o’ fuzz zipping around the room like a gerbil on crack!
