Put me back on the bench, coach!

Olivia and the benchAfter finding Olivia asleep, I decided I should join her (though not on the bench), and after I laid down in the bed, I found that I suddenly had a kitten sleeping right next to my head. Funny how that works out – I guess my shoulder is even better than the bench, and probably warmer too. But then we woke up, and after jumping down to go eat some food and drink some water, Olivia decided it was time to attack the bench! … Read more

I’m sittin’ here on the Group W fuzzball bench…

Stormy day here at theLogBook.com HQ, so all hands – and paws – are inside. Which means that everybody gets to see Olivia’s latest hand-me-down. For quite some time, this kitty bench of Iago’s has been propping up an old PC in my room (that isn’t even plugged in to anything), so I got the PC off of it and cleaned it up a bit to see if Olivia would like it.

Kitty updates, drowning David Blaine, and porn.

OthelloPoor Othello, he hasn’t been getting a lot of face time, what with all of the other cat-related news going on. Othello celebrates his 12th birthday in a couple of months, and before we adopted Olivia, we took him to the vet to get his shots brought up to date and for a general checkup. The good news is that my little fuzzy guy is the very picture of health – he’s still active and fit, and doesn’t have any major health issues. He keeps in shape with repeated bouts of IMS (Invisible Mouse Syndrome), symptoms of which include chasing across the house after invisible objects at top speed. I think he does this just for the exercise myself. As for Olivia, she’s fine and she’s fiesty and was bored to tears today because I had to feed horses in the morning, take out the trash, and then get what little sleep I was going to get before having to go to work. Life as a kitten is rough! We have bad weather on the way, so Xena will probably be coming into the house. We’ll see how Olivia likes her “big sister” who happens to be a giant dog. (Seriously, at most they’ll probably only get a glimpse of each other.) … Read more

Olivia.

It's Olivia! Our new kitten now has a name – it’s Olivia! So we have Othello and Olivia. (It’s a bit of a reach, but you can also shorted this name to “Livia,” who was Xena’s daughter in the last season of Xena: Warrior Princess, but that’s a coincidence; earlier today I had proposed “Mitzi,” slightly rearranged from “Nimitz,” the sentient treecat who perches himself on Honor Harrington’s shoulder in the Honor Harrington sci-fi novels that my wife likes so much. Perhaps not coincidentally, this kitty like perching on her shoulder too. Probably just as well for the memory of the late real-life Fleet Admiral Nimitz of the U.S. Navy that I was the only one who liked “Mitzi.”)
Olivia vs. String! To celebrate this momentous occasion, there’s – you guessed it – another video (getting to be a daily thing, eh?), this time it’s Olivia vs. the string, upholding yet another fine Chloe tradition. 😆 The good news is that, despite me bringing her home and playing with her for over an hour, Olivia has completely bonded with my wife. She’ll snuggle up to me and sleep, and she’ll play with me, but she doesn’t often demand my presence. If Jan tries to leave the room, however, Olivia starts crying pitifully. I was the one who snatched her away from her buddies in the kitten cage (some of whom I suspect were her brothers and/or sisters) and brought her to a strange place. My wife, in the other hand, picks her up by the scruff of the neck to get her out of trouble. Only mama does that. 😛 … Read more

Kitty recruitment drive II.

We may have found a new kitty already – that’s almost alarmingly fast. To my relief, she looks nothing like Chloe, despite being the same breed that happens to be my wife’s favorite. We’re waiting to find out more about her, including whether or not she’s even still available. She’s also a Katrina Kitty, rescued from St. Bernard’s Parish. Of which large chunks apparently no longer exist; her family has never been located. Maybe adopting her would help to mend a lot of broken hearts right now. We should know more soonish. We saw another kitty, this one in Oklahoma, who looks a lot like Chloe – a little too much like her, really. Hopefully this is Othello and Xena’s new friend – and my wife’s new fuzzy sidekick on this crazy journey through life.
Speaking of crazy things you never, ever expected to happen: the original Star Wars movies, pre-special-edition, on DVD. Officially. This September. OK, can we finally admit that there is a God, and He is great? 😆… Read more

Hitting bottom. And not bouncing back.

It’ll probably come as a surprise to nobody that I’m completely exhausted. I took a day off of work yesterday, though truth be told I think I could’ve handled a whole week off, but of course we’re in the midst of May sweeps. (Though given that few seemed to like my most recent contribution to sweeps, an ungainly creature I call Hypnopotamus, maybe there is a perfectly valid reason for me to take off during one of the two most critical ratings sweeps of the year.) I tried to get caught up on some reviews and things for the site with that extra day, though truth be told this meant getting a grand total of three new reviews written – woooo.
Othello continues to mope around, but I’m pleased with how much time he’s spending with my wife. He even hops up on the bed with her to keep her company. This isn’t a substitute for getting her own cat again, but I think it should help everyone out in the interim. Speaking of kitty critters, I went looking and found that these days, you can actually see what cats the humane society has online – you can see their pictures, their breed (if known) and how they arrived – if they were given up by an owner or if they were strays, if they’re already neutered, the works. … Read more
