I’m not really sure that there’s a place on my site for reviews of serious software applications, but this one deserves special praise. I’ve been using Mailwasher for several years now to combat spam, and a year or so back we finally paid up and registered it because it is that good. It’s very good at committing spamicide. Basically, what Mailwasher does is scan your inbox and analyze the contents of each message, letting you preview a little or as much of the message as you want before opening your e-mail client and downloading it onto your computer.
It can be told to always let mail from certain addresses through, or to always consider mail with certain words or phrases to be spam. It also flags messages containing viruses, all without allowing the malignant code onto your machine. The beauty of this new version is the “learn” button – you can click a trash can on a message and Mailwasher will “learn” what makes it spam, or click an envelope and the program will “learn” what makes it legit. So far, based on the occasions on which I’ve hit the manual “learn” buttons, it hasn’t made a mistake yet.
I can’t recommend it highly enough. You can get Mailwasher Pro 5.2 from Firetrust Software, and I promise, you’ll never look back. Bring it on, spammahs – Mailwasher’s watchin’ my six.
