The Black Hole soundtrack

Soundtrack specialty label Intrada releases one of the most-requested “holy grails” in the history of the hobby of soundtrack collecting, an official CD release of John Barry’s soundtrack from the 1979 Disney science fiction movie The Black Hole. Presented in its entirety for the first time, the release is the product of years of work to recover and copy the original session tapes, which were originally recorded on a now-obscure digital tape format.

Silva Screen Records releases Murray Gold’s soundtrack music from the 2010 Doctor Who Christmas special, A Christmas Carol. This is the first time in the revived series that a single episode has gotten an individual soundtrack release; Katherine Jenkins’ song “Abigail’s Song (Silence Is All You Know)” is inclucded.

Star Trek V soundtrack

Star Trek: The Motion PictureSoundtrack specialty label La-La Land Records releases a limited edition 2-CD set featuring – for the first time – the entirety of Jerry Goldsmith’s soundtrack from Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. For the first time, the complete score is presented, including alternate takes and arrangements. The limited edition of 5,000 sells out in four months, and the album later gets an unlimited reissue with slightly different cover artwork on the Intrada label.

Silva Screen Records releases a 2-CD set of Murray Gold’s soundtrack music from the 2010 season of Doctor Who. This release continues the double-disc format of the 2009 specials soundtrack, and includes most of the music recorded for the entire fifth season.

Star Trek: TNG – The Ron Jones Project

TNGFilm Score Monthly releases Star Trek: The Next Generation: The Ron Jones Project, a mammoth 14-CD box set containing nearly all of the episode scores Ron Jones scored during the first four seasons of the series. The score conspicuous by its absence is the fan favorite The Best Of Both Worlds, originally released by GNP Crescendo in 1991 and contractually locked to that label. Jones’ scores for the computer games Starfleet Command and Starfleet Academy are also included, along with unused cues from TNG.
