Despite releasing characters from A Piece Of The Action and City On The Edge Of Forever, Playmates’ most inspired choice of episode-specific classic Trek characters was its four-piece subset of toys from The Cage, the original pilot which NBC rejected.
Not long after the Cage characters were released, another eagerly awaited classic Trek toy arrived in stores, the Shuttlecraft Galileo vehicle, including a Captain Kirk action figure in the earlier-version Starfleet uniform seen in Where No Man Has Gone Before. (Despite the box’s assertion that the Galileo had appeared in the former of those two episodes, it didn’t appear until much later in the first season; this was just a thin pretext for the early-uniform Kirk pack-in figure, a.k.a. Classic Kirk head on a The Cage Spock body.)
