Ghost Story: The Summer House
NBC airs the sixth episode of the supernatural anthology series Ghost Story, produced by 1960s horror movie mogul William Castle and starring Sebastian Cabot. Steve Forrest and William Windom guest star. (This series will be retitled Circle Of Fear in 1973.)
Ace Of Wands: The Eye Of Ra, Part 4
ITV airs the 26th episode of Ace Of Wands, starring Michael McKenzie, Tony Selby and Judy Loe. Oscar Quitak (Brazil) guest stars in the second season finale, which also marks the departure of cast members Selby and Loe. This episode, like the rest of the series’ first two seasons, is now missing from the archives.
Soyuz 8
The Soviet Union launches Soyuz 8, intended to be the passive partner in a space rendezvous and docking with Soyuz 7 (launched the previous day), as the already-launched Soyuz 6 films the docking. When the rendezvous radar gear aboard all three Soyuz vehicles fail to function properly, the docking is aborted; the only history made by the near-simultaneous trio of Soyuz craft is the largest number of humans in orbit at the same time to date (seven). Cosmonauts Vladimir Shatalov and Alexei Yeliseyev – both veterans of the docking missions of Soyuz 4 and 5 earlier in the year – return to Earth after nearly five days in space.
Star Trek: The Apple
The 34th episode of Gene Roddenberry’s science fiction series Star Trek premieres on NBC. Once again, the Enterprise crew dismantles a machine maintaining a superstitious belief system on a backward world. David Soul guest stars.
Out Of The Unknown: Frankenstein Mark II
BBC2 airs the 14th episode of science fiction anthology series Out Of The Unknown. Written by Hugh Whitmore, the story stars Bernard Archard. This episode no longer exists in the BBC’s archives.
Star Trek: Mudd’s Women
The sixth episode of Gene Roddenberry’s science fiction series Star Trek airs on NBC. Roger C. Carmel guest stars as interplanetary rogue Harry Mudd in the character’s first live action appearance.
Adam Adamant Lives!: D For Destruction
The 16th episode of the spy-fi series Adam Adamant Lives! airs on BBC1, starring Gerald Harper and Juliet Harmer. Patrick Troughton (Doctor Who, Knights Of God) and Iain Cuthbertson (Children Of The Stones) guest star in the first season finale.
